Regardless of how many times you have tried, behaviors that keep you trapped can be replaced with genuine freedom.
August 10, 2005 -
Great Friends… A Safe Place… Practical Help for your situation… A life renewed by Christ’s Power… That’s what you’re likely to find on Friday nights at City Harvest’s CPR Christ-Powered Recovery.
Jesus Christ said, “Unlike everything or everyone that robs, mistreats, and beats you down, I have come to bring you a life so full that you can’t contain it all.” Unfortunately, we start to think that what we are experiencing now can’t change. We’re doomed because of something out of our past or trapped in some behavior of the present.
Christ-Powered Recovery has a message for you. Wounds from the past can be healed. And, regardless of how many times you have tried, behaviors that keep you trapped can be replaced with genuine freedom.
Jesus Christ did not simply come to die so that we can get to heaven some day. He came to bring eternal life to earth. And he came to show us how that kind of life works.
CPR uses a curriculum which parallels the AA 12-Steps. It is based on the 8 Key Principles taught by Jesus Christ in Matthew chapter five.
Christ-Powered Recovery is part of City Harvest Church's commitment to "Help People Find Their Destiny In Christ". People find freedom from thoughts and behaviors that limit their growth and hurt people. They find healing from the past. And they find God opening doors they never thought were possible.
Friday Nights
Come and check out our Friday night meeting.
- 6:00 PM CPR Friends Dinner.
- 7:00 PM "Got Hope" Gathering Time
- 8:00 PM Special Focus Small Groups
- 9:00 PM CPR Fellowship
The 6:00 Friends Dinner is a great time to meet a few people in a totally casual setting. We ask those who can afford it to kick in $2.50 or $7.00 for a family to help cover expenses but everyone is welcome whether or not you can pay for the meal.
Our "Got Hope" Gathering at 7:00 helps everyone get their eyes off of themselves and their problems and get refreshed with some encouragement and reminders of God's love. We want you to walk out with more hope than you started with.
The time from 8:00 - 9:00 is really important. It's the time when the whole group breaks up into focused Small Groups. This is the place where each person is going to grow the most. Each group is conducted by a trained Leader and follows a format designed to keep the group safe and not waste time by following Small Group Guidelines.
Groups
- If it's your first time to CPR we'd like to have you attend our Welcome Group. It's a one-time orientation night and an opportunity for you to ask questions about CPR.
- Men's or Women's T and T Group. This is a great time to start or continue your "recovery" process with reminders of some key elements which are for everyone who wants to grow. These two groups are designed to benefit you whether you come for one week or are in the group for several months.
- Focus Groups. In one sense, these groups are the heart and soul of CPR. People who have identified a particular area of struggle grow with others who face the same battle. They are provided tools for that particular area along with the basic CPR Notes and they benefit from the encouragement of people who relate to their situation. We have offered groups for women and men who struggle to find freedom from drug or alcohol addiction, sexual addiction, overeating, overcoming anxiety and depression, healing from past abuse, etc. Other groups will become available as the opportunity arises. Focus Groups generally run for six months. We ask attendees to commit to the full six months.
Family
We want whole families to benefit from CPR so we provide programs for all ages. From 6:00 to 7:00 children stay with parents.
- Small children (babies up to age 6) are cared for in an area specially designed with their safety in mind by approved child-care workers.
- Seven to twelve year olds participate in character - building activities with approved child-care workers.
- Teens up through High School remain in the "Got Hope" Gathering until 7:30 and then have "hang-out" with an approved adult.
CPR Leadership
Pastor Larry Knox understands on a personal level that it is impossible to walk in the destiny God has for you when you repeatedly trip over the same personal issues and problems. He will be at CPR every Friday night along with his team.
The rest of the CPR Team is made up of Small Group Leaders who have struggled in the same area as the Small Group they lead. It's also supported by House Churches that serve for the evening on a periodic basis.
CPR IS:
- A good place to grow
- A place to find others committed to personal growth
- Encouragement to move forward
- A safe place to share
- Truth of the Bible applied meaningfully to your life struggles
CPR IS NOT:
- A quick fix
- Cheap psychological help
- A place to judge others
- A place to look for a date
- A place to be rescued by someone
Come and find out for yourself.
