Psalm 17
The Psalmist reflects on his relationship with God. He knows that God has examined his heart. God has visited him and tested him. The Psalmist has determined that he will not transgress with his mouth and will walk the correct paths without slipping. Now he has confidence that God will hear him, even to incline His ear to him.The Psalmist anticipates that the Lord will wondrously show love to him and all those who take their refuge in the Lord.
We can have that confidence as well. Not only because He has called us to Himself but He is at work in us to transform us. As we see His work to cause us to walk the paths of righteousness and prevent us from slipping onto the paths of violence we know that He is working it out in us. Then we have that same confidence that the Psalmist had - not confidence in ourselves but in God's work in us. "Faithful is He who began the good work, He will bring it to completion" (Phil 1:6).
"Lord, let us see your grace and majesty at work in us. Then we will know that we belong to you, that you have indeed chosen us as your children. That gives us even greater confidence in you and in our future, that we will be able to glorify you in all we do."
Amen
